Mom got this at S&R:

s and r cranberry orange cake, 240baon

I absolutely love this! Actually, everyone in the family does. It has the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. It has bits of cranberry that I love! MB eats this for breakfast.Too bad I wasn’t able to eat more as I’m on a sweets ban. I don’t know how much one cake costs and if it’s regularly available at S&R. I will definitely buy one when I am allowed to eat sweets again.

My family went shopping at S&R last week. Mom got me these goodies:

chewy chips ahoy, 240baon

My doctor recently told me to stop eating sweets so I only had 2 cookies. MB is enjoying this.

I haven’t opened this yet.

s and r baby back ribs, 240baon

I’ve been wanting to taste S&R’s baby back ribs for the longest time but I always didn’t have the budget for it. Mom finally bought one. It’s too sweet for me. I still prefer their roasted chicken which Mom also bought. I didn’t bother taking a photo anymore as I’m sure most of you are already familiar with it.

I miss shopping at S&R. I hope I can go there soon. My house arrest has been lifted but my husband only allows me to go to the nearest malls that’s why I can’t go to the BGC area.

*Please excuse the photo quality as these were taken using my phone.

It was the end of the week and we were running out of ingredients. We had half a bag of beans in the ref and a can of corned beef so I asked MB to cook them together in a soup.

It’s a normal thing for us Filipinos to combine canned food with whatever’s leftover in the fridge and make them into a soupy dish. This extends the food portion so every member of the family can eat. Even families with good income do this as it has been a way of life.

We also had fried chicken with this. I think fried chicken will forever be in our weekly menu as long as my husband is in-charge of cooking. = )

My husband is still the cook so I plan simple dishes that he can cook on his own. This is what we had for dinner one night:

adobong liempo, 240baon

This is adobong liempo which I marinated in the morning. I told him to fry them and then add the marinade. These were delicious.

cabbage soup, 240baon

We also had some cabbage soup cooked in chicken broth with bits of ham.

In spite of the simplicity of these dishes, my husband still spent 2 hours in the kitchen! He is really terrible with his time management when cooking. Oh, well… I guess as long as they’re delicious..

breakfast bacon, egg and sovital bread, 240baon

Last week my family decided to go to Baguio on a whim. I wasn’t able to go with them because of my health so I asked them to buy me two things – sovital bread and banana bread.

The banana bread was out of stock so they just bought me this. These were recommendations from pinkcookies.

I had very high expectations from the sovital bread. Unfortunately, the loaf that they got was dusted with so much flour on top. All I could taste was the flour. It also had a terrible flour after-taste. I would taste flour whenever I burped. Nevertheless, I still eat this because it’s not necessarily cheap at Php170 per loaf. I wouldn’t want to throw money away just because of the flour. I Just take off as much flour as I can. I’m thinking of just cutting off the top to remove all the flour.

I think I would have really liked this had not been for that ingredient. Next time I will tell them to choose the loaf with the least flour. Thanks again pinkcookies for the recommendation!

I love Sbarro’s meat sauce. I usually just order the chicken rice and pour the sauce over it. That’s what I asked MB to buy for me a couple of weeks back. I still had some leftover sauce so I poured it over some homemade herbed rice:

Loved this lunch. I’m still salivating just thinking about it.

I tried to cook dinner last Sunday but gave up even before the shrimps were cooked. I was hurting already so I gave the reigns to MB.

mixed veggies, 240baon

This is a simple veggie stir fry that is constant in our menu. I just tweaked it this time by adding sesame seeds.

shrimps in garlic sauce, 240baon

These are garlic shrimps with a simple sauce that consists of Mountain Dew, lemon juice, honey, hot sauce and salt I cooked them in butter, by the way.

I need to find more simple recipes so that I’ll be able to help out my husband in the kitchen.

My husband is becoming a better cook and I am really surprised with the things he whips up. Here’s our lunch last Saturday:

homemade fried chicken, 240baon

kangkong with bagoong, 240baon

Homemade fried chicken (my recipe but he cooked it perfectly), kangkong with bagoong and some green mangoes. Everything was so delicious!

As promised, here’s the hearty breakfast that I enjoyed from KFC.

kfc big breakfast, 240baon

It comes with fried rice, chicken tocino, chicken longganiza, scrambled eggs and chocolate chip pancake.

kfc chocolate chip pancake, 240baon

Can I just say that I really, really liked the tocino? I’m not a huge fan of tocino but this was delicious! The rice is also better than McDonald’s and Jollibee just because it’s fluffy and not oily. I hate oily fried rice. Jollibee’s fried rice is usually drenched in oil.

I didn’t care for the longganiza. It tasted weird but I ate it nevertheless. The scrambled eggs were too salty so I didn’t eat that. I had the pancake for my morning snack and it was also delicious. It’s not too sweet even when I poured syrup on it.

I would definitely order this again. Kudos to KFC for a great delivery system. I ordered hot chocolate for MB and did not notice that they texted me to say that it was not available. I replied about 10 minutes after they texted. In spite of my late reply, they were still able to deliver my order in under 30 minutes. Beat that Chowking!

Sunday, June 2, 2013

Since I cannot cook, we have been relying a lot on deliveries. But don’t get me wrong. I don’t eat fast food every single day, only on days when my husband can’t cook. I’m so happy that KFC upgraded their delivery system. To say that it’s awesome is an understatement. They promise to deliver your food in 30 minutes. Mine always arrives in 15-20 minutes. How great is that? A total opposite from Chowking.

There's a Chowking branch just 10 minutes away from our house but every single time I order, the food is more than an hour late. When I follow up with their call center, the agent just says that she will call the branch and ask the super or the manager to call me up. I rarely get a call from them. In the 8 months (yes, I’ve been keeping track) that I’ve been having food delivered, I only received 2 calls. The last one was just last week and I don’t even know if that was the supervisor on the line. I was furious because it was over an hour and the food was nowhere in sight. They said that the rider was just about to leave the store. What the???? So yeah, I got pissed. On top of that, the supervisor hung up on me while I was talking and never called back. I will never order delivery from them again until they improve their services. I posted this incident on their FB page and it’s only today that I got a reply and it simply said that they will look into the matter.

Moving on, aside from their delivery system, KFC has been doing a lot of things with their menu. One night I ordered this chicken chop:

kfc chicken chop, 240baon

It was okay, nothing spectacular. It has a bit of a bitter after taste. I don’t know where that’s coming from. Nevertheless, I finished this meal but I won’t order it again.

kfc chicken burger steak, 240baon

Next is this chicken burger steak. I was looking for the mushrooms in the gravy but they were non-existent, same with the veggies with the chicken chop. This tastes better than the chicken chop in my opinion. For 39 pesos, this is so sulit. I would order this again although I hope to see the mushrooms by that time. Oh, and this patty is a bit tough. I don’t know if it’s because I ordered at night and this may not be a popular item on the menu. But it’s okay especially for students who are on a budget.

I just had a hearty breakfast from KFC and I will blog about that tomorrow.
