On our way back from Baguio, we stopped by a Shell Select for coffee for our driver and my family. I don't drink coffee, so my son and I perused the aisles for interesting finds. This is something I like doing in convenience stores, rest stops, groceries, and supermarkets.
When I first saw the box, I already felt this wasn’t your typical neighborhood bakery cheese pie. The packaging alone—clean white, elegant gold accents, and that little window showing the golden top—makes it look like something you’d proudly bring to a family gathering or gift to a friend.
A First Taste
Opening the box, the smell of butter and cheese comes through right away. The pie itself is very thin—almost like a butter cake, but denser, richer. When I sliced through it, I noticed the texture was soft but firm enough to hold together.
And the taste? That’s where it really stands out. Other cheese pies I’ve tried lean heavily on sweetness, almost like they forgot the “cheese” part. This one nails the balance. The salty notes from the grated cheese cut beautifully through the buttery sweetness of the base. Every bite gives you that chewy-soft texture with just enough richness to make you want another slice, but not so heavy that you get tired of it.
It’s the kind of pie that makes you pause and just enjoy the moment—simple but elegant, and definitely crafted with care.
Verdict: A soft luxe treat worth indulging in. Perfect with coffee or tea, or as a thoughtful gift.
I've been scouring the rest stops on every journey, hoping to find this cheese pie again. Next time I see it, I'll be sure to get at least two boxes!
