Back when my son was between 3 to 5 years old, we would go on mini dates after his mental math and robotics class. We would go to nearby Century City and eat Elait's rolled ice cream and Potato Corner Fries while watching the kids at Kidzoona play. We enjoyed these little moments where the world went by and we were focused on each other, enjoying these treats.
The dates stopped during the pandemic, but now that he has classes in the mall again, I decided to bring back this well-loved tradition.
Our first stop? Elait, of course! If you're not familiar, Elait offers artisanal rolled ice cream made right before your eyes by their deaf staff. Yes, talk about corporate social responsibility. This is the primary reason why I got attracted to this brand. They employ deaf people, which in my opinion are an underserved demographic of PWDs.
I asked Zac if he still remembered how this ice cream was made. He said not anymore, so I told him to watch.
We ordered the Mango and Strawberry flavor with yogurt. You have the option of choosing custard or yogurt. I think years ago they only had yogurt.
To say that this cup was good is an understatement. The mangoes and strawberries were fresh. And the mangoes were sweet, mind you! Plus they're generous with the fruits. Aside from the fruit bits in the yogurt, they also topped it with mangoes and a whole strawberry! The other toppings were broas, slivered almonds, and a sweet cream that went really well with the sour yogurt. It wasn't too sour though. It was alright for our taste.
Since this is rolled ice cream, you have to eat it faster than you would a regular ice cream. The different textures in this cup worked so well for me. Smooth, creamy, crunchy, soft, etc. Iwas umay!
We ordered the small cup. I think there are 2 sizes. This was already too much for me, but I was able to finish it. I told my son that next time, we should just order the big cup and share.
Because Elait' is in Overdoughs, I decided to try their chocolate crinkles. I think this is double dark chocolate.

It's really good. The texture is there. You know that melt-in-your-mouth texture of a good crinkle? I like the fact that this is dark chocolate, so it's not overly sweet. The powdered sugar adds that perfect kiss of sweetness in every bite. It's not hard to bite, but also won't crumble when you bite into it. The size is alright for its price.
My son wasn't able to eat his crinkle because he was feeling cold from the ice cream already so I asked it to be put in a takeaway bag. And look how cute that paperbag is with the matching sticker! Bravo Overdoughs marketing team!

The bittersweet crinkle was the perfect balance to the sweet and sour rolled ice cream.
They also gave us this Php25 voucher that we can use on our next visit. I can't wait to try the other things on the menu!

I can't remember the price of the rolled ice cream but I think I paid around Php480 for this meal.
