Behind the Golden Crust: Rosario’s Ham & Cheese Empanada

Let's talk about Rosario Restaurant's Ham and Cheese Empanadas. The one on the right is a bag of ube cheese pandesal, by the way. I'm not a fan of this kind of pandesal, so only my husband ate this.

One morning, I was overwhelmed with my task list, and was still tired from our Tagaytay trip, so I decided to heat up some empanadas and the leftover Bulacang Okoy from the restaurant

I was very disappointed with the empanada. When I bit into it, I had a big chunk of cheese. This is the sharp kind of cheese, the one that hurts your tongue and makes your mouth produce a lot of saliva. I am not a fan of this cheese, especially if it's a big chunk like that.

So, the cheese was rolled with, probably a half slice of ham. We have square ham here and this looked like it. The shell itself was mostly made up of air inside. I thought the empanada was full! I was expecting a Contis-style empanada but I got:

..a crust that crumbled as soon as I bit into it.

The shell itself was tasteless and I didn't like the texture. Hmmm.. I think I'm going to make my own version! Stay tuned for that.

I was so disappointed that I unrolled the ham and gave the cheese to my son. He loves cheese, but he said that he didn't like this empanada either.

Will I go back to Rosario? Definitely! Will I buy this empanada again? No way.

Next up: my double review of Amira's chicharon and mango cheese tart!
