Lady E Reviews: Derick's Food to Go via Grab Food

Last weekend, my son and I went on a staycation at Red Planet Hotel Timog. We go out during the day, but for dinner, we usually order in if we're not having a family dinner.

We got to taste Derick's Food to Go, a recommendation by my sister. We ordered it via Grab Food. Grab is like our version of Postmates.

My sister recommended the siomai. She really loves siomai, so we got that. As you can see, it looks very enticing, what with those whole shrimps on top. Well, that's all the shrimp you're going to get. I think there's mushroom in there, too. At first, this tasted good, but on my second one, there was this weird aftertaste that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it was the mushroom? There were also lots of fat and hard bits. I left a few pieces because my son wasn't interested in them.  He was enjoying this:

This nilagang baka would have been superb had it had a lot of meat and not fat and these:

We don't eat fat and you certainly can't eat that. There was hardly any meat and what little I got, I gave to my son. I mostly ate the vegetables and the soup. The soup was wonderful. It was lightly seasoned, but still made the rice flavorful when you spoon it over. The beans were crisp and the greens were not overcooked.

The nilaga also had a small piece of corn and about 1/4 plantain or saba banana. The saba still had it's peel on, which was off-putting.  Anyway, I can eat neither, so I guess that's okay. Oh, and there was only one small potato, which got my son disappointed as he loves potatoes in soupy dishes.

I mostly ate the siomai with the vegetables and soup from the nilaga. Even without a lot of protein, I still couldn't finish the siomai.

I would order the nilaga again just to see if this was a fluke. If they give us more of those inedible bits, I'm not ordering again.

As for the siomai, if you like lots of fat in your siomai, go ahead and try it.
