Not Everything on My Plate Needs to Make Sense

There are days when I look at my table and laugh a little.

Because nothing matches.

Not the colors, not the textures, not even the intention behind each plate.

And yet… it’s exactly what I needed.

I didn’t like this. It was too dense for me. And if I remember correctly, it wasn’t as sweet as I wanted it to be.

I rarely eat three full meals a day, especially now that it’s summer. The heat alone is enough to throw my body off, and with my histamine rising quickly, heavy meals in the middle of the day just don’t sit well with me. So instead, I listen.

I eat in smaller portions. I eat what feels safe. I eat what my body allows.

And I save a proper, full meal for the evening, when the air cools down and my body finally softens with it.

That’s why my “lunch” doesn’t always make sense.

Sometimes it looks like this (cover photos): a small bowl of fruit, something fresh and light. A few bites of salad, just enough to feel like I’m taking care of myself. Then right beside it, something playful… cookies, bright orange cheese snacks, maybe even truffle chips that feel a little too indulgent for the time of day.

It’s not planned. It’s not balanced in the traditional sense.

It’s intuitive.

There are moments when I crave something crisp and clean, and moments when I want something salty, comforting, almost nostalgic. And instead of forcing one version of “healthy,” I let them exist together.

Because that’s the truth of how I eat.

My son and I like these. The truffle is a bit strong though, so be warned.

Not perfectly. Not predictably.

But honestly.

Later in the day, when the world quiets down and the temperature finally drops, that’s when I sit down for a real meal. Something warm, grounding, complete. Something my body can fully receive.

But during the day?

I let it be light. I let it be scattered. I let it be a little chaotic.

Burritos - I just stuff them with whatever’s available 😆

Because not everything on my plate needs to make sense.

It just needs to feel right.

And of course, tide me over until the next meal. 😆
