This Was Good… So, Why Did I Throw It Away?

 

I used to have this belief that I shouldn’t waste things, especially food. 

You know how much I detest throwing food away. 

But one morning, I found myself throwing a container of Avocado Cashew ice cream that’s still about three quarters full. 

We enjoyed the ice cream the previous night. 

It was the right kind of sweetness for me. I’m not a fan of overly sweet desserts. 

It had the perfect ice cream texture. Not too soft. 

I loved the lightly crunchy cashew bits. They made for an interesting contrast in texture.

The avocado taste was subtle, so subtle that it kept me wanting just one more bite to figure out the taste. 

And the cone? That rounded out all the flavors and the textures. It was a perfect dessert. Light and satisfying.  

The next day, gone. Binned.

Why?

My husband accidentally left it out of the freezer overnight. 

It was a melted mess when I found it. 

I hate wasting food. I hate throwing out food. 

But it had to be done.

These days, I don’t think twice about throwing away food. Not after my son’s couple of bouts with some digestive issues. 

The food I cook lasts a long time. I’ve proven that. But I’m not taking any chances anymore, especially when my family’s health is on the line. When a week has gone by and it’s left untouched in the fridge, I throw it out. 

It’s not wasting. It’s peace of mind.
