We all have those days.
Days when we feel like it’s too much, too hard.
When everything just stacks one on top of the other.
When you’re almost empty, but the world still demands so much of you.
Moms can relate.
Tired from a full day’s work.
And still expected to put dinner on the table.
This was one such day.
I was having a hard day.
Tired, zero energy.
Biology not cooperating.
So I built a soft table.
If you look at it, it’s not cohesive in the sense that the dishes don’t make sense together.
But I thought about it.
I thought what each person on the table would like.
And reheated those.
Yes, reheated.
Soft tables don’t require freshly cooked food.
They accept whatever you can handle.
I may be running on empty,
but I still needed to eat.
My family still needed to eat.
But even if I have nothing to give,
I still choose to give myself a place to land -
Pretty plates, pretty prints,
Colors and textures.
And flavors.
Different flavors.
Always.
I couldn’t do much but
I still made the table a beautiful space to land on.
