Some days, I don’t want to think about food.
Not what to cook.
Not what’s “healthy.”
Not what makes sense together.
I just need something that works.
Something that doesn’t ask questions.
These are the meals I make when I’m tired.
When my body is sensitive.
When the day already took too much from me.
They’re not planned.
They’re not balanced in the way people expect.
They’re just… safe.
And filling.
A bowl of arroz caldo with egg.
Soft. Warm. Easy to eat.
Something my body doesn’t fight.
Something that reminds me of rainy days when I was a child and my grandma would serve this to me and my friends.
Apples on the side.
Because sometimes I need something cold, clean, and simple.
And crunchy.
Always crunchy.
Omurice.
No explanation needed.
Just protein, carbs, soy sauce, comfort.
Something fast.
Something familiar.
The moment when I first cut into the corner - eggs, ketchup, rice and filling shoveled onto my spoon, that’s the best part.
And then I taste and close my eyes and exhale.
And somehow, I feel lighter already.
Yes, this dish gets it.
Pressed sandwiches
A light soup.
Onsen eggs.
A smoothie on the side.
Some may argue this isn’t a perfect set.
But it is for me.
And on heavy days, that’s enough.
These meals don’t ask me to perform.
They don’t expect me to be inspired.
They don’t require energy I don’t have.
They meet me where I am.
And sometimes…
that’s the kind of nourishment I need most.
Not perfect.
Not aesthetic.
But real.
And on days like this…
real is enough.
