I didn’t need two cherries.
One would’ve been enough.
And yet, there were two.
Sitting quietly on top of a simple scoop of chocolate ice cream—nothing extravagant, nothing plated for effect. Just a small glass bowl, a familiar sweetness, and that little, almost unnecessary detail.
The second cherry.
It’s funny how we negotiate with ourselves over small things.
One scoop.
One topping.
One indulgence.
As if wanting a little more requires permission. As if there’s an invisible line we shouldn’t cross, even in something as simple as dessert.
But no one said anything.
No one stopped me from placing the second cherry there.
And somehow, it didn’t feel excessive.
It felt… right.
Balanced.
Complete.
The chocolate was rich but quiet.
The cherries, soft and syrupy, cut through with just enough brightness to wake everything up. Not sharp, not overwhelming—just enough to remind you that sweetness doesn’t have to come from one place alone.
Maybe that’s the point.
Not everything needs to be measured so carefully.
Not everything needs to be reduced to “just enough.”
Not everything needs to follow the rules.
Some days don’t ask for restraint.
They ask for something a little softer.
A little kinder.
A little more.
And sometimes…
that looks like a second cherry. 🍒
What does your second cherry look like today?
