Baguio Country Club Cheese Bread

My sister went to Baguio, Ifugao, etc. last week. She brought home a bunch of goodies including this: It’s supposed to be a cheese bread but it’s filled with walnuts and dried fruit. It’s like a fruit cake inside. I didn’t like this. I like sweet and savory but this was just terrible. I like dried fruits as my grandma makes a mean fruitcake and she uses the same ingredients. I just didn’t appreciate this. It really tasted weird for me. The filling just does not go with the bread.

Chocolate Heaven

This was MB’s birthday cake. It’s called Chocolate Heaven from Red Ribbon. This is the junior cake that costs Php395. It’s a very rich chocolate cake that chocoholics will surely love. They will really be in Chocolate Heaven after this. The bottom layer is a whole brownie. The middle part is chocolate mousse and the icing is very thick chocolate topped with more chocolate shavings. I have to admit, it took us a few days to finish this small cake. One small slice is enough to satisfy your sweet tooth unless you have a really large tooth. = ) On my first taste, I started with the brownie first then the mousse. It made me umay ! The trick is, you have to include all the layers in one bite as they all complement each other’s flavors. It was delicious nevertheless. If you’re feeling blue or want to surprise someone, I suggest you get this cake and celebrate the little things that make you and your loved one happy.

My Almost Caribbean Salad

I’m big on salads during summer. I especially like salads for dinner so the other night, I prepared this: I say almost because I skipped the jicama and avocado. I also added an assortment of nuts. The other ingredients are mixed greens, cucumbers, onions and mangoes. For the dressing, I used a bit of shoyu, fish sauce, sesame oil, lemon juice, honey, salt and pepper. I put them in this bottle: and shake, shake, shake! It tasted a bit weird at first then I got used to it. MB loved it. He wanted to pour everything on the salad. I had to stop him from time to time. This was a very filling salad. I made a variation on this salad for dinner tonight and it is even more filling! I have a heavy stomach while writing this. = )
