Lady E Reviews: Fermel's Cuisine Visayas Avenue

Hi, everyone! We are currently on vacation, so expect a lot of food and restaurant reviews in the coming days.

We just finished dinner and here's what we got from Fermel's:

Nilagang Baka

Nilagang Baka

Let's talk about the nilagang baka first because we were looking forward to it. We loved Derick's nilagang baka albeit having some issues. We compared this one from Fermel's.

Taste

It was too bland for us. As is, it was already bland. It was almost tasteless when I ate it with rice. Filipinos typically spoon the soup or sauce over the rice. I wish I had some fish sauce and calamansi when I ate this.

Texture

The beef was not tough, but also not as soft as Derick's. But I had one that was too tough for my plastic utensils. I went all savage mode (our joke term for when we need our hands to eat) and tore the meat with my fingers. But even then, I still had a hard time tearing small chunks off.

Value for Money

This costs Php470 ($8). It has lots of veggies - cabbage, Taiwan pechay, local pechay, beans, plantains, and potatoes. It had 4 pieces of big chunks of meat and 1 small piece. This is enough for 2-3 people, as long as you have another viand. My son and I were able to finish all of the meat. There are still a lot of vegetables leftover.

This is a pretty good deal for $8.

Crispy Chicken

Crispy Chicken

As you can see, there's a lot in this container. I was shocked! I told my son that we might not be able to finish it. But, boy, was I wrong!

Taste

First bite was reminiscent of McDonald's chicken. Just a little bit, though. That familiar taste fades as you chew it. Then it kinda reminded me of ChickenJoy. Go figure. That's how I experienced it. 😆

The breading was crunchy. It was piping hot when it arrived, same with the nilaga. However, and here it is again, it was too bland for us. I needed to dunk it into the banana ketchup that came with it with almost every bite. Some parts also had too much oil, so it gushed out when I bit into it. That part I don't like.

My son liked it though. I ate about 3-4 small pieces and he finished the rest.

Great value for money if you don't mind the bland taste. Just dip it in the banana ketchup.  Php440 ($7.45)

Rice

I like the addition of spring onions on the rice. The rice is pretty good. It wasn't mushy that it tastes like congee, but not too tough like it has been cooked this morning and left in the rice cooker. It had the right texture for me. It held well even when I poured soup over it.

Rice Php40 ($0.68)

Lady E's Verdict

It was a good meal. We paid a little over a thousand pesos. We got full, but tastewise, I wasn't satisfied.

I will order again and try their other dishes. They have a big menu and I look forward to tasting their other dishes.

4/5 🌟

Stay tuned for more of our food adventures! I'll try to blog as soon as we finish a meal.
