In My Own Time: A Soft Day of Chicken Rice, Ichigo Dreams, and Quiet Cravings

Last weekend, I needed to go out of the house because our aircon was getting cleaned. I was supposed to go out with my son, but he had a tummy ache. I went out thinking this was a good chance to have some Me Time.

You can read my posts about where I went starting with this post.

My friend joined me sometime in the afternoon after work. He learned that I was alone and said he’d accompany me and help me with my shopping bags.

It was very late in the afternoon and I was getting hungry and my blood sugar was dropping. I was also flaring a little from the heat at High Street.

I ordered my favorite roasted chicken rice from Tiong Bahru. (Up top)
I love chicken rice, but I always get the roasted version. I don’t like bloody chicken, which more often than not shows up in the steamed version.

Tiong Bahru is pretty consistent with their roasted chicken. The skin is the perfect texture and flavor. The meat is tender and the flavor is enhanced by the dark sauce. Too bad I can’t eat ginger anymore. It’s very good when you have all 3 sauces on the chicken - sweet, salty, spicy, gingery.

The rice is also always perfect. It’s not mushy, not too chewy either. And of course, the soup. That just rounds everything up. My son likes the soup. My friend also said that the soup was good. It’s his first time to eat there.

We wandered around Mitsukoshi (which you’ll also read about in my other blog) and then sat down at Sawada Ichigo to enjoy this:

Well, I enjoyed this. He ordered ice cream. If you’re not familiar, these are shaved frozen Hokkaido strawberries with Hokkaido milk. It’s sooooo good.

Since I ate in between merienda (afternoon snack) and dinner, I got a little hungry that night (as I’m a night owl) and fried some M&S potato croquettes.

My son and I shared this. He likes the texture inside.

We dip it in ketchup.

I had a really great time that day, shopping and eating light food that nourishes me.

Have you had some Alone Time lately?

’Til our next shared bite,
Stay cozy. Stay curious. Stay nourished.
LET'S EAT.
