The Power of Choosing What You Consume

Most people think consumption begins at the dining table.

It doesn’t.

Long before we choose what to eat for breakfast, we’ve already consumed dozens of things.

Headlines.

Other people’s opinions.

Conversations.

Advertisements.

Social media posts.

And the endless stream of information competing for our attention.

Food is only one part of the story.

Everything we consume shapes us in some way.

The books we read influence our thoughts.

The people we spend time with affect our mood.

The content we watch can leave us inspired, anxious, hopeful, or exhausted.

Even the environments we move through each day quietly leave their mark -

On our minds, our hearts, our bodies.

For years, I focused on choosing better ingredients, better meals, and better ways to nourish my body.

What I’m realizing now is that true nourishment extends far beyond what is on my plate.

The quality of my life is often determined by the quality of what I allow in.

In a world overflowing with options, I have learned to be selective.

To choose my consumption with intention.

I’m going through my days like how I shop.

I carefully choose the pieces that I will exchange for my money.

I choose the pieces that I allow in my trolley.

Not everything will fit.

And that’s okay.

Some things are not meant to go in there.

Some things don’t deserve my attention.

Some food, no matter how delicious or healthy the world deems it, cannot be allowed into my system.

I’m choosing to be more selective of the people I talk to.

The people I hang out with, I eat with.

I’m choosing what kind of energy I allow into my life and the kind of energy I give.

I’m choosing what kind of input goes into my body and my mind.

Choice is a powerful weapon.

And I’m wielding it now with wisdom and discernment.

So now, I move differently.

More aware of what I take in.
More intentional about what I allow to stay.

Not everything deserves a place on my plate.
Not everything deserves my attention.
Not everything deserves access to me.

I no longer consume out of habit.
Or noise.
Or convenience.

I choose.

I choose what nourishes me.
What feels right in my body.
What leaves me clearer, softer, stronger.

And when something doesn’t?

I leave it untouched.

Because I’ve learned this—

It’s not just about what you eat.
It’s about what you allow to feed you.

And these days,

I’m choosing well.
