One evening, I found myself facing a familiar problem.
It was already around 10 PM, I was very tired, and my family still needed dinner.
I wasn’t in the mood to cook anything elaborate. Actually, I wasn’t in the mood to cook much of anything.
So I decided we were having breakfast.
For dinner. 😁
I took out a box of Nestlé Crunch cereal, poured some into bowls, and added milk.
That took care of one part of the meal.
For the other, I made a quick ham spread and brought out some store-bought bread rolls.
The ham spread was homemade, but I was perfectly happy to let someone else take care of the bread that evening.
We could simply tuck the spread into the rolls, have our cereal, and call it dinner.
And that’s exactly what we did.
No complicated preparation. No collection of pots and pans waiting to be washed afterward. Just a few things I could put together quickly when I was running out of energy.
I think there’s a tendency to imagine dinner as something that has to look a certain way. A proper main dish, a side dish, perhaps something freshly cooked.
But some evenings don’t leave much room for that.
Sometimes dinner is whatever gets everyone fed without making an already tiring day even longer.
And on this particular night, that meant chocolate cereal, milk, and ham sandwiches.
Not exactly a traditional dinner menu.
But it worked beautifully for us.
Besides, who decided cereal had to be eaten in the morning?
