Some afternoons are made for simple pleasures: a plate of pancit, my watercolor paints, and something sweet to enjoy while I work.
This time, dessert was a beautiful mango tart from Lartizan.
I’ve always loved their pain au chocolat, so I was looking forward to trying something different. And visually, the mango tart certainly delivered. The mango slices were arranged into a lovely little rose, making it almost too pretty to eat.
Unfortunately, the taste didn’t quite live up to the presentation.
The mangoes were extremely tart. I don’t mind a little acidity in fruit desserts, but these were sour enough to overwhelm the rest of the tart and spoil the experience for me.
Which was such a shame, because I really wanted to love it.
Still, I enjoyed my pancit, spent some time painting, and had a lovely afternoon.
And the next time I visit Lartizan? I think I’ll stick with their pain au chocolat. Some favorites are favorites for a reason. 🥐
Do you prefer your mango desserts sweet or slightly tart?
