240 Baons + 365 Meals

My sister went to Baguio, Ifugao, etc. last week. She brought home a bunch of goodies including this: It’s supposed to be a cheese bread but it’s filled with walnuts and dried fruit. It’s like a fruit cake inside. I didn’t like this. I like sweet and savory but this was just terrible. I like dried fruits as my grandma makes a mean fruitcake and she uses the same ingredients. I just didn’t appreciate this. It really tasted weird for me. The filling just does not go with the bread.

This post is for all my man friends out there who rely on this blog to feed them (haha!) or give them ideas on what to eat aside from the regular junk food that they buy dyan sa tabi tabi. Or at the very least, give them a nudge to eat decent food. We were supposed to have this for baon but my kuya invited us for lunch so we had this for dinner instead. Filipinos are very creative when it comes to cooking food that will feed every member of the family. Even some well-off families serve simple gisa or sauteed dishes. Men are also taught this very simple way of cooking. Ginisa dishes often include a vegetable and some meat. But some go without the meat especially if the budget is low. Ginisa is very popular with the middle class, down because they normally have soup which is a good extender and helps you get full without eating too much. Ginisang Sayote, Repolyo at Tuna (Sauteed Chayote, Cabbage and Tuna)- SOY-FREE, GLUTEN-FREE, DAIRY-FREE

I've been spending a big chunk of my day studying and learning more about health, the mind and body and how my family and I can achieve perfect health. We are eating much, much healthier now than a few months ago. You may know that I suddenly developed a soy allergy so our house is soy-free. My son has also developed several allergies (well, actually, both him and I) so I've been very careful with our meals. We mostly eat at home and we only have a few restaurants that we go to every now and then. This is a mostly allergy-friendly dish with the exception of the fish sauce. You can just use salt but I insist that you use a good broth as that will give this dish the depth in flavor that it needs. This dish is cheap and fast and can feed a lot of hungry mouths. These were all leftover ingredients in our fridge that I put together in one meal. I had one organic chayote, half a small organic cabbage and one tuna steak.
