Baguio Country Club Cheese Bread

My sister went to Baguio, Ifugao, etc. last week. She brought home a bunch of goodies including this: It’s supposed to be a cheese bread but it’s filled with walnuts and dried fruit. It’s like a fruit cake inside. I didn’t like this. I like sweet and savory but this was just terrible. I like dried fruits as my grandma makes a mean fruitcake and she uses the same ingredients. I just didn’t appreciate this. It really tasted weird for me. The filling just does not go with the bread.

Asian Style Grilled Tanigue

I think the fish would be more flavorful if you allow this to sit in the marinade overnight. I did it for 10 minutes. For the marinade, you will need: 4T soy sauce 4T oyster sauce 1T fish sauce 2T brown sugar 6 cloves garlic 1T calamansi or lemon juice ( I used about 2T) 1/2t chili Mix all the ingredients until the sugar dissolves. Pour over the fish and let sit for 10 minutes while you heat up the grill. In my case, the stove with an P88 grill on top. Brush the grill with some oil. Grill the fish, turning as needed to allow even cooking and brushing with the sauce to avoid drying up. Sprinkle with spring onions. So how did it do? I'd give this a 2.5 out of 5 stars. Don't get me wrong. It was delicious. But again, maybe allowing it to marinate overnight might do the trick. Or maybe I'm just not really fond of grilled fish. I also served this with and... and you know what that means. It's time for Japanese inspired dishes again!

Japanese Snack Review: Kameda Age Ichiban Shoyu Rice Crackers

If you've been following me for a while, you know I love Japanese food, so naturally I would gravitate towards Japanese snacks. Japanese rice crackers are a staple in my bentos like this one: This particular rice cracker is Kameda Age Ichiban. It contains honey and soy sauce so don't give this to a 1-year old to avoid botulism. Actually, don't give this to a child aged 4 and below. Choking hazard. It's fried so it's very crunchy. Too crunchy sometimes that if you're not careful, it will scrape your hard palate, which has happened to me. So what I do is I crack it into smaller pieces and pop them in my mouth one by one. The taste is like most Japanese crackers in the market. But I remember, the first time I tried it, I didn't like it. It's on the 4th or 5th bite that I appreciated the taste.
