Baguio Country Club Cheese Bread

My sister went to Baguio, Ifugao, etc. last week. She brought home a bunch of goodies including this: It’s supposed to be a cheese bread but it’s filled with walnuts and dried fruit. It’s like a fruit cake inside. I didn’t like this. I like sweet and savory but this was just terrible. I like dried fruits as my grandma makes a mean fruitcake and she uses the same ingredients. I just didn’t appreciate this. It really tasted weird for me. The filling just does not go with the bread.

Homemade Childhood Sweets

What’s your favorite homemade childhood sweet? I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but I like eating homemade desserts and sweets. My grandmother would make polvoron, yema, pastillas and other desserts that the whole family can enjoy. Christmases and birthdays are favorite affairs to whip up these desserts. Fast forward to the future where everything is fast paced, we no longer have the luxury of making these sweets at home instead, we just buy them from commercial bake shops. My Almost Caribbean Salad

I’m big on salads during summer. I especially like salads for dinner so the other night, I prepared this: I say almost because I skipped the jicama and avocado. I also added an assortment of nuts. The other ingredients are mixed greens, cucumbers, onions and mangoes. For the dressing, I used a bit of shoyu, fish sauce, sesame oil, lemon juice, honey, salt and pepper. I put them in this bottle: and shake, shake, shake! It tasted a bit weird at first then I got used to it. MB loved it. He wanted to pour everything on the salad. I had to stop him from time to time. This was a very filling salad. I made a variation on this salad for dinner tonight and it is even more filling! I have a heavy stomach while writing this. = )
