240 Baons + 365 Meals

My sister went to Baguio, Ifugao, etc. last week. She brought home a bunch of goodies including this: It’s supposed to be a cheese bread but it’s filled with walnuts and dried fruit. It’s like a fruit cake inside. I didn’t like this. I like sweet and savory but this was just terrible. I like dried fruits as my grandma makes a mean fruitcake and she uses the same ingredients. I just didn’t appreciate this. It really tasted weird for me. The filling just does not go with the bread.

Ginisang Sayote, Repolyo at Tuna (Sauteed Chayote, Cabbage and Tuna)- SOY-FREE, GLUTEN-FREE, DAIRY-FREE

I've been spending a big chunk of my day studying and learning more about health, the mind and body and how my family and I can achieve perfect health. We are eating much, much healthier now than a few months ago. You may know that I suddenly developed a soy allergy so our house is soy-free. My son has also developed several allergies (well, actually, both him and I) so I've been very careful with our meals. We mostly eat at home and we only have a few restaurants that we go to every now and then. This is a mostly allergy-friendly dish with the exception of the fish sauce. You can just use salt but I insist that you use a good broth as that will give this dish the depth in flavor that it needs. This dish is cheap and fast and can feed a lot of hungry mouths. These were all leftover ingredients in our fridge that I put together in one meal. I had one organic chayote, half a small organic cabbage and one tuna steak. As usual, I don't put the amounts of each ingredient

Vietnamese Halo-Halo

Actually, this is more of a fruit salad and not like our regular halo-halo. By the way, halo-halo is a Filipino cold dessert. It uses a mix of fruits. I got this from a show on the Asian Food Channel. As usual, I did not write down the recipe so I ended up recreating this from memory. This is not the exact recipe, by the way, as I like tweaking recipes to suit our tastes. It was so good that my glass ended up like this: The next day, I recreated it and used a bowl instead of the fancy glass. These are the blurry layers. If you're interested to make this, read on. You need: chopped mangoes chopped avocados lychees (I used canned) coconut water sugar syrup cubed dragonfruit cubed seedless watermelon coconut milk crushed ice Let's do this! Layer the fruit starting with the watermelons then the mangoes, dragonfruit and avocados. Top with the lychees. Pour some coconut water, sugar syrup and cocon
