McSpaghetti and a Dinner Date With My Cricut

There are evenings when dinner happens at the dining table.

And then there are evenings when dinner happens directly in front of a cutting machine. 😁

This was one of those evenings.

I was swamped with orders at Stars & Roses, my stationery atelier, and there was still so much to finish. The Cricut Maker 3 was open, supplies were scattered around the worktable, and stopping everything to prepare a proper meal wasn’t particularly appealing.

So McDonald’s it was.

I had fried chicken with gravy, McSpaghetti, and a generous serving of  poptatos!  Everything came in its takeout packaging, and I ate right there at the worktable.

The Cricut was practically my dinner companion.

For readers outside the Philippines, here’s something you might find interesting: McDonald’s in the Philippines serves spaghetti.

It’s called McSpaghetti, and it’s based on Filipino-style spaghetti, which is quite different from the Italian version.

The tomato-based sauce is a little sweet, and it has pieces of hotdogs in it. There’s also grated cheese on top.

Sweet spaghetti with hotdogs might sound unusual if you’ve never encountered it, but it’s a familiar part of Filipino food culture, particularly at children’s parties, family gatherings, and fast-food restaurants.

Our version of spaghetti has its own personality.

And on a busy work night, having it alongside fried chicken and fries was exactly the kind of convenient dinner I needed.

There was nothing beautifully arranged about this meal.

The pasta stayed in its cardboard tray. The chicken came with its little gravy containers. The fries were still in their paper bag, and my Cricut sat directly behind everything.

I even had scissors beside the food.

Not exactly a restaurant setting. 😁

But I was hungry, I had orders to finish, and dinner needed to happen somewhere between one task and the next.

Sometimes that’s what life in a working atelier looks like.

A little chaotic, very busy, and occasionally accompanied by a plate of sweet Filipino spaghetti.
