Sometimes You Just Need Spaghetti and….Poptato!

Sometimes dinner does not need to make sense to anyone except the person eating it. Sometimes you want spaghetti. Sometimes you want potatoes. And sometimes McDonald’s chops crinkle-cut potatoes into adorable little pieces, puts them inside what looks suspiciously like a tiny pillow box, calls them Poptato , and suddenly regular fries have competition. At least in our house. Poptato is one of the newer additions to the McDonald’s Philippines menu, arriving around the same time as the Choco Lava Puff I recently tried . And unlike the Choco Lava Puff, which left my son and me somewhere around the hmmm, it’s okay territory, Poptato was an immediate hit. The McDonald’s Choco Lava Puff Was Calling My Name

There are some food launches I can look at, think, Oh, that looks interesting, and then peacefully continue with my life. The McDonald’s Choco Lava Puff was not one of them. I saw the ad for McDonald’s new desserts after they phased out the Apple Pie, and that was basically it. The Choco Lava Puff had entered my brain. By that evening, I had ordered it. I mean, look at the premise: flaky chocolate pastry with warm chocolate filling inside. On paper, this sounded extremely promising. Unfortunately, the actual experience was a little more complicated. First Bite of the Choco Lava Puff Mine arrived warm, which was expected. The chocolate filling inside was still warm too, so breaking into the puff gave me that lovely molten-chocolate moment I had been expecting. And there was certainly chocolate. Baguio Country Club Cheese Bread

My sister went to Baguio, Ifugao, etc. last week. She brought home a bunch of goodies including this: It’s supposed to be a cheese bread but it’s filled with walnuts and dried fruit. It’s like a fruit cake inside. I didn’t like this. I like sweet and savory but this was just terrible. I like dried fruits as my grandma makes a mean fruitcake and she uses the same ingredients. I just didn’t appreciate this. It really tasted weird for me. The filling just does not go with the bread.
